SMITH&CO SOUND & VISION
Melanie described Victim of the Moon as a ‘work in progress’ and Crazy Love is the now the final result. A new cover (not universally welcomed by fans) and a revised track listing. New songs added are , This House, The Wonderer (a re-recording of a song that first appeared on the Dutch album, Melanie in 1987), Crazy Love, Prone To Wander, Come Away Come Go and Poet is King, while several others are dropped (You Call Yourself a Writer, Centre Of Your Circle, When Love Is Deep, Working Legend and Never Had A Clue). I Can Do This is a short, spoken track, a sort of introduction to the album’s title song.
The sound quality of this album is excellent and subtly different (and better) than Victim Of The Moon. It seems to have been mastered to a higher standard, with instruments sounding bright and clear and Melanie’s vocals well balanced, unlike some albums of recent years where her voice seems to have been mixed too far back against the music.
When the album was released on Europe a new song, Last Call, had been added and the title track had been replaced with the version that has come to be known as The Ballad of Crazy Love.
